“What do you mean? That’s still my home Tre. I spend a lot of time here, but I never agreed to move in.”

“I never said you did, but that’s going to be a problem when my baby gets here.”

“I don’t see how. You make a big deal out of the smallest shit,” Mia yelled right before she walked out of the room and into the living room.

She sat down right next to Von, who was already sitting on the sofa watching the news. He heard their entire argument, but he refused to get in the middle of it. He made it clear to both of them in the beginning that he was staying out of their relationship. They’d done it for two years without his help, so obviously they didn’t need it. As long as no licks were thrown they were all on their own with everything else.

“Let’s go,” Tre said angrily when he walked out of the bedroom a few minutes later.

“You want me to drive?” Von offered.

“No, I’ll drive,” Tre responded right before they all walked out the front door.

Von sat in the back while Tre drove, and Mia sat up front. He found it comical how they both talked to him, but they never said a word to each other. Even when they pulled up to the doctor’s office Tre helped Mia get out of the truck, but they never uttered a word.

“Sit down while I sign you in,” Tre instructed Mia when they walked into the waiting area.

“You see Von? He thinks he’s my daddy,” Mia complained right as she took her seat.

“That’s all on y’all. Leave me out of it,” Von responded right as Moonie walked through the door.

“Sorry that I’m late,” Moonie said taking a seat next to Mia.

“It’s cool. We just got here too,” Mia replied.

Tre sat down a few minutes later, and they all made small talk and waited for Mia’s name to be called. Moonie was going on and on about the baby shower, but Von was just ready to find out the baby’s sex.

“Lamia Walker,” the nurse yelled out.

Tre jumped up and pulled Mia along with him, leaving Von and Moonie to trail behind them. Once the nurse got all of Mia’s vitals and took her weight, the doctor walked in and started her checkup. Von stepped out claiming that he didn’t want to see anything that he wasn’t supposed to see. He walked back into the room just in time for the ultrasound tech to do her thing.

“This better be a damn girl. They don’t even make nothing cute for lil boys,” Moonie said as they waited for the baby’s image to appear.

“I want a boy. I’ve had enough of combing Tootie and Anika’s hair. I don’t want to have to do it with my own baby,” Mia replied.

“Let me take a few pictures and we’ll be done,” the tech announced after a few minutes of silence.

“Can you tell what we’re having?” Tre asked.

“It’s a girl,” she smiled brightly.

“I knew it. I told y’all that it was a girl,” Von said excitedly.

“This baby shower is about to be off the chain. I can’t wait to play dress up with her,” Moonie replied.

“Nah Moonie, you not about to have my granddaughter in no halter tops and shit,” Von fussed.

“Awe shit, he’s starting already and the baby ain’t even here yet,” Moonie frowned.

Mia ignored them going back and forth and started getting dressed. Tre couldn’t stop smiling after finding out that he was having a little girl. He really didn’t care what they had since it was his first. As soon as Mia was done they all walked to the front of the clinic to get her follow-up appointment. Moonie and Von were talking amongst themselves while Mia and Tre didn’t say anything at all.

“You want to go get something to eat before we go?” Tre asked Mia. They were standing in front of his truck while Von and Moonie continued to talk.

“Go where? I told you that I’m going home today,” Mia answered.

“I know, I’m coming with you.”

  “You are?” Mia smiled.

“Yep, I’m spoiled now. I’m not used to sleeping by myself anymore. I need to always be close to you and my baby,” Tre replied right as Von walked over to them.

“So I guess that’s your way of saying you’re sorry about how you were acting earlier,” Mia said looking at him.

“You know how I am Mia, but I am sorry for acting up,” Tre replied.

“Alright, so I got four months to get my baby’s room ready. What kind of theme are you doing Mimi?” Von asked when he walked over to them.

“I don’t know. I haven’t even thought about it,” Mia replied.

Mia didn’t want to bring it up at the moment, but Von was talking like the baby would be living with them. She had to have things at Moonie’s house too, but he never once mentioned anything about that. She and Tre hadn’t even discussed living arrangements as of yet.

“Well, you need to start. And we need to think of a name too. And I’m telling you right now, don’t even try to name my grandbaby nothing ghetto. You don’t have to name her nothing close to her daddy. I hate when women do that shit. Babies be walking around here and can’t even pronounce their own damn names,” Von fussed.

“Why my baby can’t be named after me?” Tre asked.

“Because your name is Trevon nigga. She ain’t having no boy,” Von yelled as they pulled away from the clinic.

“Alright Von, we’ll think of a nice name,” Mia said not wanting to start an argument that she knew they couldn’t win.

After dropping Von off at home, Tre packed up a few clothes to accompany Mia to Moonie’s house and they left. Mia planned to study for the rest of the day, so he stopped to get them something to eat before they turned in for the night.

  Chapter 8

“Ahhh fuck, wait baby, don’t move,” Mitch begged Moonie as she backed it up on him in the middle of the living room.

Moonie had ass for days and right now she was working it on him like it was a full-time job with benefits.

“Nah, nigga. What was all that shit that you were talking just a minute ago?” Moonie looked back and asked him.

“I was just fucking with you,” Mitch said while trying hard to catch his breath.

Tre had to go to the barber shop, so Mia decided to take her little brothers to get their weekly haircuts too. Anika and Tootie went along for the ride leaving Moonie and Mitch at home alone. After pleasing each other orally for a while Mitch started bragging about having her climbing the walls. Of course, Moonie had to show him who was the reigning champ in the sex arena. It wasn’t long before he was screaming her name and every other obscenity that he could think of. He should have known from past experiences that she didn’t take mercy on him in the bedroom.

“Well the joke’s on you,” Moonie smiled.

She propped one of her legs up on the arm on the sofa and held on tight. When she looked back at Mitch, he looked like was ready to tap out at any minute. When Moonie started throwing it back at him fast and hard Mitch almost lost his balance, but he held on to her hips tightly before he stumbled and fell.

“Ooh shit girl,” Mitch panted as he watched his hard length moving in and out of Moonie’s wetness.

Moonie always did know how to satisfy him sexually, and it only seemed to get better with time. Having six kids didn’t slow her down at all.

  “You ready daddy?” Moonie moaned.

She and Mitch had been going at it for over thirty minutes, and she knew that it was only a matter of time before he couldn’t go any longer.

“Damn baby,” Mitch yelled when he felt Moonie squeezing the life out of his hardened member.

His entire body started to shake when he felt his little soldiers marching to the beat of Moonie’s drum. She squeezed her muscles around him until every little drop that spilled was suck up into her walls. Mitch collapsed on the floor and tried to control his irregular breathing. They weren’t worried about her getting pregnant again since she’d had her tubes tied after the miscarriage.

“That’s why you want to marry me, huh? Moonie asked as she leaned down to give him
a kiss.

“That’s only one of the reasons, but it’s a damn good one,” he laughed.

“Come on and let’s take a quick shower before the kids come back. Tanya should be here in a little while too,” Moonie replied.

Mitch stood up on shaky legs and followed the love of his life to the bathroom to freshen up. He didn’t want to rain on Tre’s parade, but Moonie was inching closer and closer to getting the marriage proposal that she kept hinting at.

“I’m so proud of you girl,” Tanya said as she and Moonie embraced.

After two tries, the third time proved to be the charm and Moonie had finally passed her GED exam. She was excited, and so were Mitch and her family. If she was still in the streets the way, she used to be she would have hit the club to celebrate. Instead, she was having a nice dinner at home with her man and her family. Tanya baked her a nice cake in the shape of a graduation cap and gown to help them celebrate.

“Thanks, Tanya, I really appreciate it. And thanks for the cake,” Moonie said as she walked her to the door.

They said their goodbyes and she went back in the kitchen to check on her food. She told Mia and Tre to stop at the store to get some drinks when they left the barber shop, and they would be ready to eat after that. Aside from her good news she was in the process of planning Mia’s baby shower with Von and preparing for Anika’s upcoming birthday party at the skating rink. Mitch rented a cabin at the waterpark for the weekend of her birthday, but Anika’s Godmother, who was Moonie’s best friend and Mitch’s cousin, wanted to give her a party the Friday before. They didn’t have to bring any food since everything was provided, but Moonie still wanted to make up some goodie bags for the kids to take home.

“Damn, that’s a big ass cake,” Mitch said when he walked out of the bedroom.

“It is, but I love it,” Moonie smiled.

“Tanya is a beast with that shit,” Mitch replied as he continued to admire the pastry.

“She is, but where the hell is Mia and Tank with the drinks?”

“You should have known that they weren’t coming right back. You know Tank is probably stalling. I know he’s nervous as hell right now,” Mitch laughed.

“I’m sure he is,” Moonie smiled.

“But listen, you know that I have to work doubles this weekend and the next in order to be off for the weekend of Anika’s birthday,” Mitch informed her.

“So you have to work from six in the morning to ten at night?” Moonie asked in and aggravated tone.

“If I want the weekend off for my baby’s birthday I do.”

“But you’re the supervisor. Can’t you just get somebody else to do it?”

“Moonie I’m the only black supervisor there. I busted my ass for five long years before I was even considered for the position. I didn’t go through all those years of college for nothing. It’s a certain way that I have to do shit. There ain’t no way around it. I have to work or we won’t be going to no cabin or nowhere else for Anika’s birthday.”

Moonie just nodded her head, but there was nothing that she could say. Mitch was a chemical engineer at a shell plant that he’d worked at for over ten years. He made damn good money, but Moonie hated his hours. Well, she did when they were together. He would have crazy hours, and sometimes he had to leave their bed in the middle of the night to go to work. That was one of the reasons why she felt like it was okay to run the streets while they were together. He was never home to tell her anything different. It wasn’t until he became a supervisor a few years later that he was able to get a set schedule and become a salaried employee. Moonie tried to settle down once again, but the streets were like a drug, and the habit was hard to break. Mitch put up with it for a while, but he got tired and gave her an ultimatum. It was either him or the streets. She made it about him for a while, but the feeling didn’t last long. After one of her wild nights of partying, she came home at the crack of dawn to find Mitch and all of his belongings gone. She tried to tell herself that she didn’t care, but that was a lie. Moonie had been with several other men before him, but none of them had her heart like Mitch did. After he had left she drowned out her pain with other men, but none of them could ever fill the void that he left. Even after he was gone, Mitch continued to profess his love for her. He made it clear that she was who he wanted, but he refused to come back until he was sure that she wanted him just as much. When he got with Melissa and moved her into an apartment Moonie was heartbroken. Even though she had Dalvin and lots of others, she still wanted her future husband, as she always referred to Mitch. Unlike Dalvin and so many others, Mitch was one of the few men in her life that didn’t mind setting Moonie straight. If she did something to piss him off he let her know exactly how he felt. He gave her what she wanted most of time, but it wasn’t a regular occurrence like it was with Dalvin.

“So you won’t be able to come to Anika’s party at the skating rink either?” Moonie asked.

“I’m sorry baby, but I just can’t make it,” Mitch replied.

“It’s cool, she really wanted the cabin at the water park anyway. This skating party is Lisa’s doing, so she won’t care if you miss it or not.”

“That must be them knocking. It’s about time,” Mitch said referring to the loud banging at their front door.

They’d put the dead bolt lock on when they were sexing each other in the living room earlier. They couldn’t risk the kids walking in and getting an eye full of them in the act. Moonie continued the task of checking on her food that was warming in the oven. She was happy that her kids had finally made it back because she was ready to eat. She waited for about five minutes, but none of the kids ever made their way into the kitchen. When she heard Mitch yelling at someone, she ran out of the kitchen only to see his ex-bitch Melissa standing at her front door.

  Chapter 9

“Bitch you must really hate your life. That’s the only reason I can see for you coming to my house,” Moonie yelled.

“Baby chill and let me handle this,” Mitch said calmly.

“Chill my ass. This bitch must be on dope or dog food to think it’s cool for her to come here,” Moonie replied as she made her way over to the front door.

“This is the projects. You’re talking like you live in a mansion or some shit,” Melissa shot back.

“Melissa get the fuck away from my house. I don’t know why your stupid ass came here in the first place,” Mitch said angrily.

“You know exactly why I’m here nigga. You left me stuck paying that sixteen hundred dollar rent when you know damn well that I can’t afford that shit on my own. You let this bitch get in your head to take your name off the lease so you can move in here and pay all of her bills. If her lazy ass gets a job, she wouldn’t need you to do nothing for her,” Melissa ranted.

“I got your bitch,” Moonie yelled as she pulled Melissa into the apartment and started beating her.

It all happened so fast that Mitch was almost knocked off balance. He never had a chance to react to his woman and his ex-girlfriend going at it in the middle of the living room. Moonie was slinging poor Melissa around like a rag doll. She was throwing punches to her face and body all the while screaming at her for showing up to her house in the first place.

“Baby let her go,” Mitch begged Moonie.

She had her hands wrapped tightly around Melissa’s neck literally choking the life out of her. Melissa’s face was full of blood, but Mitch could clearly see her eyes starting to roll in her head. He couldn’t fathom the love of his life and mother of his kids going to jail for murder, so he had to get Moonie to let her go some kind of way.

“Baby please, you’re killing the girl,” Mitch said as he pried Moonie’s hands from around Melissa’s throat and stood in between them.

“Now run and tell that to the police bitch. I’ll slap some trespassing charges on your ass so fast you won’t know what to do. You tried it, but I bet you won’t make the mistake of coming to my house again,” Moonie yelled breathlessl
y.

“Melissa just leave. You should have known better than to show up here in the first place,” Mitch said holding the door open for her to leave.

“Bitch you messed with the wrong one. You put your hands on me for the last time. This ain’t over, and you better believe that shit,” Melissa cried as she hurried out of the apartment before she got another beat down.

“I’m ready for whatever hoe,” Moonie yelled to her departing back.

She could tell that Mitch was upset, but she really didn’t give a damn. It would be a cold day in hell before she allowed Melissa or any other bitch to come to her house talking reckless.

“Did you really have to do all of that? You should have let me handle the shit just like I told you to,” Mitch argued.

“Fuck that Mitch! That bitch came to my house and you wanted me to stand there and look stupid while she go off at the mouth? That ain’t even me and you know that.”

“Everything doesn’t have to result in a fight Moonie. I’m trying to teach our kids how to do the right thing and I can’t even get you to act right. You need to put the same effort into whipping asses around here and maybe my daughter wouldn’t be out here cussing like a sailor,” Mitch fussed.

“This ain’t about our kids. It’s about your ex-bitch showing up to my house like it’s cool.”

“It is about our kids. Anika and Tootie have gotten out of control and that’s because you don’t do shit about it. I keep telling you that they’re watching everything that you do. You’re supposed to be leading by example, but you’re too busy out here fighting like a fucking teenager.”

“Don’t try to put the blame on me for this shit. The fact remains that you were in a relationship with that crazy hoe. She needs to get the picture and move on. You don’t have a reason to be upset. I should be the one pissed off about you dealing with her ass in the first place,” Moonie yelled.

“If your ass was acting right I wouldn’t have had to deal with her or anybody else. Stop always playing the victim and take responsibility for your actions. You need to focus less on the bullshit and worry more about us and our family. If acting like a grown ass woman is too hard for you just let me know so I can keep it pushing. All the dumb shit stops today and I mean it,” Mitch said with finality.
