  Epilogue

  Previously in Creepin’ Part 2

An entire week had passed, and Mia and Tre still hadn’t talked to Von, not that they were in a hurry to. If he wasn’t busy ripping and running the two of them had something else going on. Lamar was scheduled to go to rehab for ninety days, and Mia was helping him get his affairs in order before he left the next day. He was allowed to bring certain things in with him, so Von gave her some money to make sure he was straight.

Moonie had started going to GED classes at the recreation center at The Court, and things had been looking up for her as well. Aside from Dalvin calling her every five minutes she was trying hard to make things work with Mitch. Aside from Shad and Paige, Dalvin also had a few other enemies in the drug game. It was rumored that he got drugs from his supplier and decided not to pay the man back after he sold it all. His mother even had to move out of her house after receiving several death threats. Mia was happy that Moonie was no longer with him because she would have been in danger too. He’d been hiding out somewhere, but he still called Moonie all the time trying to make things right with her. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Mitch’s ex-girlfriend Melissa had been on some fatal attraction shit lately. She started playing on Moonie’s phone, and she actually followed her home from the mall one day. Moonie was ready to beat her ass, but she drove off before she could get to her.

“What is this bitch doing here?” Mia asked when she and Tre pulled up to Von’s house.

It was Terri’s birthday, and she went with Tre to put some fresh flowers on her grave. He picked her up early that morning, and she’d been riding with him ever since. Mia wished she would have driven her own car because she would have been on her way home by now. This was her second time being without her car when she needed it, and she was kicking herself once again.

“Chill out Mia. You better not even think about fighting with nobody, and I mean that shit,” Tre warned.

“I’m not trying to fight nobody, but that bitch better not say anything to me.”

“I’m not playing with you, Lamia. Don’t piss me off,” Tre fussed.

Mia sucked her teeth and got out of the car. Tre was staring at her like he didn’t believe that she would behave herself. She was surprised when they pulled up and saw Rainey’s car parked in front of Von’s house. As bad as she would have loved to tap that ass again she knew that she couldn’t. Tre would probably kill her if she did.

When they walked into the house, the living room was empty. Mia heard voices coming from the kitchen, so she headed in that direction. Of course, Tre was right up on her trying to make sure she didn’t start anything. When Mia and Rainey locked eyes, they just stared at each other, both refusing to look away. She didn’t speak to Mia or Tre, and they didn’t bother speaking to her either. Von felt the tension and decided to speak up on it.

“So this is what we’ve been reduced to? We’re family, but we can be in the same room with each other and not even speak. What is going on with y’all?” Von asked.

“I’m about to go Von. I just came by to talk to you,” Rainey said as she stood to her feet.

She had only been there for about twenty minutes, but she was ready to go. As much as she used to hang with Mia and Tre before, she just couldn’t take being around them at the same time now. It was too embarrassing to even be in the same room with them. Ro had ruined her reputation, and she was happy that someone had taken him out of his misery. He didn’t deserve to breathe anymore after what he’d done to her. The look that Mia gave her was one of pure hatred, but she refused to look away. Rainey wasn’t scared of her, and she needed to know that. She caught her off guard the last time, but that would never happen again. After all, she really didn’t have a reason to be mad since she obviously came out on top. She still had Tre wrapped around her finger just like always. Rainey just never understood why. Tre had women that practically threw themselves at his feet, but he chose Mia. She just didn’t understand what Mia had over her and so many other women that wanted him. Mia was pretty, but so was she. Rainey’s shape wasn’t as nice, but she still had sex appeal. She’d spent as much time around him as Mia did, but he looked over her and chose Mia instead. Rainey was hoping that it would be just a fling, but they ended up falling in love with each other. Even when she confronted him about it, he didn’t even know how to explain it. He just kept saying that the heart wants what it wants as if that was an answer. When Rainey saw that she didn’t stand a chance she started throwing London on him instead. Aside from oral sex and one sexual encounter, Tre sent her on her way and was chasing after Mia once again.

“You don’t have to leave, baby. Stay until I’m done with this food, so you can get you something to eat,” Von insisted.

Although that sounded good, Rainey couldn’t do it. The only reason she came over at all was to give Von a much needed apology. He didn’t deserve being disrespected, and he definitely didn’t deserve the cold shoulder that she was giving him. Von had been too good to her for that. Once her mother and step-father found out what happened, they were pissed as well. They told her how selfish and ungrateful she was, and they were right. Whatever happened with her and Mia had nothing to do with her Godfather. When she called him, and he told her that he was home alone, she rushed right over to apologize to him face to face. She was hoping to be gone by the time Tre came home, but it was too late.

“I wish I could, but I have somewhere else to go,” Rainey lied.

  “Okay, well maybe you can
come back tomorrow. I’ll save you some,” Von promised.

He walked Rainey to the door while Mia and Tre sat at the island waiting for him to return. As much as Mia couldn’t stand Rainey she was happy that she came to see Von. He’d become so accustomed to seeing both of them every weekend, and he was really missing Rainey. Von didn’t know what was going on, but he was paying for the mistakes that Mia, Tre, and Rainey had made. It wasn’t fair, but it was out of Mia’s control. Rainey was the one who started a war that she couldn’t win. For a long time, Mia ignored the comments that Rainey would make regarding Tre. After all, they were only fourteen-years-old when she started lusting over their eighteen-year-old God brother. He had an older girlfriend at the time and lots of other girls on the side. He never paid them any attention and Mia was fine with that. It wasn’t until she turned sixteen that things started to change. Tre would say little things to her, but she just thought they were harmless compliments. Then one day out of the blue, he told her that he wanted her as more than just a friend. Mia was scared to death at first, and Rainey didn’t help the situation out very much. She kept telling Mia that he was going to dog her out because she was so young and inexperienced. Rainey was the reason why Mia took so long to give Tre a chance in the first place. She was scared to death of falling for him only to have him break her heart. Rainey was sexually active, but Mia was still a virgin. She didn’t want Tre to take her virginity and leave her full of diseases like Rainey said that he would. That was why Mia made him get tested before they had sex. Then when Rainey and one of their other friends got chlamydia from the men that they were with Mia was happy that she did. After seeing that Tre and Mia were messing around, Rainey started checking for Duke, but he never wanted her like she wanted him.

“I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m so sick of all this foolishness between y’all. I just don’t get it. One day we were all good and happy. Then Mia and Rainey are fighting like cats and dogs the next. Now I know that they had some problems at school or something, but I don’t understand why you have a problem with Rainey, Tank. I just want to know what the hell is going on around here,” Von fussed when he walked back inside.

“I don’t have a problem with her,” Tre replied.

“Well, that’s not what she’s saying. She said that you don’t speak to her anymore because of Mia,” Von said looking between the two them.

“That damn girl is lying. She knows why I don’t mess with her no more,” Tre answered.

“Everybody seems to know what’s going on except for me, but I do know that something ain’t right. All these secrets and lies just don’t make no damn sense. What ever happened to honesty these days?” Von fussed.

“I hope you don’t think Rainey is honest,” Tre remarked with a frown.

“All of y’all are up to something. And from what I can see the two of you seem to be the ringleaders,” he said pointing back and forth between Tre and Mia.

The two of them just looked at each other as if they were thinking the very same thing. It was now or never. They needed to tell Von what was up and the sooner, the better. Tre nodded his head at Mia right before she started to speak.

“I do have something that I need to tell you, Von,” Mia said as she nervously fidgeted with her fingers.

  “No shit,” Von replied sarcastically.

Mia’s palms were sweating like crazy, but she wasn’t backing down.

“Don’t just sit there playing with your fingernails, open your mouth and start talking,” Von insisted.

“Okay, but please don’t be mad at me Von. I know you’re going to be disappointed, but I don’t want you to hate me,” Mia said as a few tears cascaded down her face.

“Hate you?” Von asked in a voice laced with hurt. “Mia I could never hate you. Lamar and Moonie might have created you, but you’ve always been just as much as my baby as you were theirs. I just need you to talk to me, so we can move past whatever the situation is. What’s going on, baby?”

“I’m pregnant,” Mia blurted out quickly.

Von felt like the entire earth had stopped spinning on its axis. He grabbed onto the counter and lowered himself into a chair before he hit the floor. He was expecting Mia to tell him something, but that was not at all what he expected to hear. His baby having a baby was not the news that he wanted to receive. Mia was supposed to be going to college. She wasn’t supposed to be walking around pregnant by one of these lil no good ass niggas on the streets. Babies were supposed to come later, but apparently that wasn’t a part of God’s plans.

“Mia no,” Von mumbled with a lowered head. “I thought you were on birth control or something.”

“I was, but Moonie took forever to make me another appointment. By the time I went to get another prescription they had told me that I was already pregnant,” she cried softly.

“What about condoms Mia? You should have been using protection if you knew you weren’t on any kind of birth control. You’re eighteen-year-old, and you should know better. Don’t try to blame Moonie when all of this is your fault.”

“I know Von, and I’m sorry,” Mia cried harder.

Von got up and walked around the counter to hug her. He was hurt, but he really didn’t want to upset her.

“Stop crying baby. There’s no need to be sorry. The damage is already done. Does the baby’s father know?” Von asked.

Mia only nodded her head, but she didn’t say anything. She had her head buried in Von’s chest as the tears continued to flow.

“So what are you going to do Mia?” Von questioned.

“What do you mean?” Mia asked lifting her head up to face him.

“I mean just what I said. You’re pregnant, but you still have choices,” Von replied.

“What kind of choices are you talking about?” Tre asked with raised brows.

“Do you want to have this baby Mia?” Von asked.

“Yeah, she wants to have it,” Tre yelled.

  “Shut up Tank,” Von demanded.

Tre’s jaws clenched in anger, but he refrained from saying what he wanted to say.

“Now, I don’t believe in abortions, but that’s not my decision to make. You know I’ll help you with this baby as much as I can, and I’m sure that Moonie will too. I just need to know how you feel about it. Do you want to have this baby?” Von asked again.

Mia didn’t get a chance to respond before Tre was yelling once again.

“Hell yeah, she wants to have the baby. I don’t even know why you’re asking such a stupid question. She ain’t having no abortion, so I don’t even know why you brought that up,” Tre fumed.

“Tank shut the hell up! This don’t have shit to do with you,” Von argued.

“It has everything to do with me when she’s pregnant with my damn baby!”

  Chapter 1

“Wait, you say what now?” Von asked while looking over at his son.

He’d heard him loud and clear, but he just had to hear him say it again. Maybe then he would know for sure that it was real. Tre turned his uncomfortable glare towards Mia, but he didn’t respond.

“Nah nigga, don’t look at Mimi. You were the one yelling and popping off at the mouth just now. Repeat the shit that you just said,” Von yelled looking over at his son.

“I said that Mia is pregnant with my baby,” Tre replied while looking right back at him.

Von would have loved to say that he was shocked, but he couldn’t even lie to himself. The pregnancy did catch him off guard, but Tre and Mia having dealings behind his back was a confirmation to what he’d recently started to suspect anyway.

“Boy, denial is really a muthafucker,” Von chuckled lowly.

“Why do you say that?” Tre questioned.

“So many people tried to tell me about y’all, but I just didn’t want to believe it. Deep down inside I kind of knew it all along. All of the signs were there, but I chose to ignore them. Y’all always seem to be talking without actually speaking. The head nods and the eye contact, all
of that was right there in my face. Then let’s not forget about the car that I know you bought,” Von rambled.

“How do you know that?” Tre asked.

“Rainey mentioned it to me once before, but I really put it together when you were in rehab. I opened your mail, and I noticed that Mia’s car was under your car insurance plan. I never believed that Jabari bought you a car anyway. Why would he get one for you when he clearly needs another one for himself?” Von said looking at Mia.

“I’m sorry for lying to you Von, but I was scared to tell you what was going on,” Mia replied.

“Exactly how long has this been going on?” Von questioned while looking at the both of them.

“It’s been off and on, but we’ve been together for like two years now,” Tre answered.

“Two years!” Von yelled. “Am I that unreasonable that y’all couldn’t come to me and tell me what was going on? Rainey and Cheryl were right all along while I was sitting around here looking like a damn fool. And I asked you if something was going on Tank. You looked me right in my eyes and lied.”

“Tre wanted to tell you, but I was scared,” Mia cried.

“Scared of what Mimi? I can admit that it would have been hard to hear, but what did you think I would do?” Von asked.

“Exactly what you’re doing now,” she mumbled.

Von lowered his head and tried to calm down as best as he could. He really wasn’t upset about them being together. Mia was a beautiful girl, and he could see why his son wanted her. Although he loved her like a daughter, the fact remained that she and Tre were not related by blood. He was more upset that they’d kept him in the dark for so long. He would get pissed whenever someone mentioned Tre and Mia being together, but he couldn’t be mad at anyone, but himself. He was the one who ignored the obvious signs even though they were all there. Truth be told, he was happy that it was Mia that his son chose.

“Go get my Crown boy,” Von ordered Tre. “And get me a glass with some ice. I need a few drinks after hearing this shit.”
