  Epilogue

  Previously on Complicated Part 2…

Mekhi woke up at the crack of dawn to get prepared for his very important day. He and Rylee were scheduled to meet at the real estate office with their attorneys to sign off on MJ’s at ten that morning. It was a little after nine, and he was already on his way. Tommy would be there soon after for him and Mekhi to make the purchase, and he couldn’t wait to see Rylee’s face. She was probably happy to know that she was taking his prized possession from him, but he had a surprise for her vindictive ass. As much as Rylee did to hurt him over the past few months, Mekhi still had to admit that he still had love for her. If Rylee wanted him back, he would have gladly forgiven her and took her hand in marriage once again. After all, he’d done more dirt during their marriage to last them both a lifetime.

After finding a place to park, Mekhi got out of his car. He made his way inside of the building and took a seat in the lobby like the receptionists instructed him to. She assured him that the real estate agent would be with him shortly.

“Good morning Mekhi,” his attorney said when he walked in a few minutes later.

“Good Morning,” Mekhi said returning the greeting followed by a handshake.

“We have about fifteen more minutes before everybody else gets here. Is there anything that you would like to discuss before we go in? Any questions about the sale of the business or anything?” His attorney asked.

“No, I’m ready to get in here and talk business,” Mekhi said excitedly.

“Well, you’re taking this better than I thought,” his lawyer replied with a smile.

“It’s all good. I can always buy myself another business,” Mekhi said nonchalantly.

“Good morning gentlemen. You can follow me into the conference room. We’ll be getting started shortly,” the real estate agent who appraised the properties walked up to them and said.

Mekhi and his attorney followed her into the conference room and took a seat at the table. Mekhi’s phone started ringing loudly, displaying Tommy’s number. The real estate agent looked at him and frowned, but he answered the phone anyway.

“I can’t talk right now. I’m already here. I’ll see you in a few minutes,” Mekhi whispered as he hung up and powered his phone off.

Mekhi was a nervous wreck, but not in a bad way. He was anxious, and his excitement had him jumpy. He was ready to get the ball rolling and celebrate his newly purchased property.

“Good morning everyone,” Mr. Campbell said as he walked into the room followed by Mr. Givens and another man whom Mekhi had never seen before.

Mekhi didn’t bother speaking to either of the men, but his attorney did. He kept his eyes trained on the opened door that he knew Rylee would be walking in shortly. Not even a minute passed when Mekhi saw her walking in. His heart immediately plummeted to the lowest part of his stomach when he saw the huge belly that accompanied her. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Rylee was pregnant and glowing like a nightlight. Mekhi couldn’t even front. He was hurt. The only woman that he had ever loved and gave his last name to was pregnant by another man. He’d always assumed that Rylee’s first child would be with him. It was selfish of him to feel that way seeing as how his first child wasn’t with her.

“Okay, so our first order of business is to have both parties sign off, releasing the property to the new owner. Our office will take the payment and cut a check for half to both of you within seventy-two hours,” the real estate agent advised.

Mekhi got up and walked over to her and added his signature to the paper. Rylee followed his lead and added her signature soon after. After explaining the entire process to them in full, the intercom buzzed alerting them of another visitor. Mekhi got excited because he knew that Tommy had arrived. He watched intently as the real estate agent walked to the door and pulled it open.

“Good morning,” she said as she shook the hand of an older black man with gray hair.

He returned her greeting and walked into the room. Mekhi smiled waiting for Tommy to walk in behind him. His smiled immediately faded when Zyrian walked in instead.

“Hold up,” Mekhi stood up and yelled. “This is a private meeting. Her boyfriend is not allowed up in here.”

“This is a private meeting, and my husband has a right to be here,” Rylee replied while flashing a huge chocolate diamond wedding ring in Mekhi’s face. His face dropped, and he couldn’t mask the anger and hurt on his face even if he wanted to.

“Okay, well your husband needs to wait outside until we’re done,” he replied angrily.

“Actually, he doesn’t,” the older black man chimed in. “Mekhi Jameson, meet Mr. and Mrs. Zyrian Hunter, the new owners of MJ’s.”

  Chapter 1

A swarm of feelings engulfed Mekhi, but shock and disbelief took precedence over them all. As if seeing the love of his life pregnant with another man’s baby wasn’t enough, he had to sit there and digest even more bullshit. Not only had Rylee dropped the marriage bomb on him, she and her new husband had apparently purchased MJs without his knowledge. He didn’t want to believe what they were saying, and he prayed that Tommy would walk through the door at any moment. Although the serious looks on their faces was his proof, Mekhi couldn’t accept that as his fate.

“How is this even possible? She’s already part owner, so how can she repurchase the property? Is this shit even legal?” Mekhi yelled firing off one question after the other.

“She was part owner,” the older black man spoke up and informed him, putting emphasis on the word was. “Once she signed the property over, it’s no longer hers.”

“And who the fuck are you?” Mekhi bellowed.

“Calm down Mr. Jameson,” Mekhi’s Attorney advised.

“It’s quite alright,” the older man smirked. “My name is Leonard Austin. I’m the real estate attorney that Mr. & Mrs. Hunter hired to assist with the purchase of the property.”

Just hearing the man speak of Zyr
ian and Rylee as a married couple turned Mekhi’s stomach. The ink had barely dried on their divorce papers, and Rylee was already remarried. She didn’t even know Zyrian well enough to be married to him and carrying his baby. Everything was all happening so fast, and Mekhi actually felt overwhelmed. He wondered where Tommy was and how their plan to purchase MJ’s had gone awry. Maybe he should have taken his call a little while ago, but he thought everything was all good with their investment. It sickened him to know that Zyrian would be enjoying something that he worked so hard to obtain. MJ’s was his life, and now that had been snatched from him. Then to see the smug looks on Rylee and Zyrian’s faces had him even angrier. He turned his attention to the man who walked in with Mr. Campbell and Mr. Givens after noticing that something seemed very familiar about him. Mekhi knew that he’d seen the blonde haired, blue eyed man before, but he couldn’t remember where.

“This is some bullshit!” Mekhi blurted out, shocking everyone else in the room.

“Please refrain from making those kinds of outburst in here Mr. Jameson,” the real estate agent advised.

“I apologize, everyone,” Mekhi’s attorney offered on his behalf.

“Its fine, but you and your client are free to leave now. His business here is done. Your check will be available for pick-up in three days Mr. Jameson. Someone from our office will call you when it’s ready,” The real estate agent said, dismissing Mekhi and his attorney.

Mekhi jumped up, knocking over the chair that he was sitting in. He was heated as he made his way out of the conference room and slammed the door behind him. He clearly heard his attorney calling his name, but he kept walking to his car like he didn’t. There was nothing more that they needed to say to one another. He needed to speak with Tommy and nobody else. After powering his phone back on, Mekhi jumped in his car and peeled out of the parking lot. He waited for his Bluetooth to connect and dialed Tommy’s number with urgency.

“What the fuck happened?” Mekhi yelled as soon as Tommy answered the phone.

“Man, that’s what I was calling to tell you. My lawyer called me right before I was getting ready to leave and told me that our offer wasn’t accepted. Supposedly another buyer offered them the full amount, and they jumped on it. I tried calling to tell him that we were prepared to pay full price, but he didn’t answer. I can’t believe that somebody else is trying to buy it,” Tommy replied.

“Somebody else bought the muthafucka already!” Mekhi exclaimed. “You’ll never guess who, though.”

“Who got it?” Tommy wanted to know.

“Rylee and that bitch ass nigga Zyrian,” Mekhi reveled.

“What! You gotta be fucking joking,” Tommy yelled.

“I wish I was. But that’s not all. Rylee is pregnant, and she married that nigga.”

“Get the fuck out of here!” Tommy shrieked in surprise.

“Yep,” Mekhi acknowledged. “Something shady is going on. I’m trying to see how this shit even happened.”

“I don’t know man, but I agree with you. If Rylee hated the bar so much, why would she want to still own it? That shit just don’t make sense to me,” Tommy said puzzled by the info that he’d just received.

“That’s what I’m saying. It’s like she knew what we were planning or something.”

  “But how?” Tommy wondered.

“I don’t know. Who else did you tell?” Mekhi asked him.

“I didn’t tell anybody. My lawyer is the only person that I’ve been talking to aside from you,” Tommy swore.

“Who is your attorney?” Mekhi asked him.

“His name is Dylan Campbell,” Tommy said making Mekhi stop his car in the middle of the street. Car horns blared behind him, and a few drivers even cursed him out. The sudden stop almost caused a massive pile up, but he really didn’t care.

“Campbell?” Mekhi repeated. “As in Campbell and Associates Law Firm?”

  “Yeah. Why?” Tommy asked.

“Fuck!” Mekhi hissed, and he repeatedly banged on his steering wheel. “That’s the law firm that Rylee works for. Brian Campbell was her father’s best friend, and she’s been working there for years. Dylan Campbell is her boss’s nephew. I knew that bastard looked familiar. You basically walked right into a fucking trap.”

He couldn’t believe the irony of the situation. Tommy’s lawyer had worked against them and helped Rylee and Zyrian out instead. Then the bastard had the nerve to show up at the meeting on their behalf.

“How the hell was I supposed to know that?” Tommy replied.

“That’s your ex-wife’s best friend. You never knew where she worked?”

“Hell no! I never had a reason to,” Tommy defended.

“How the hell did you find out about them anyway?” Mekhi questioned.

“My mama had a magnet with the firm’s information stuck on her refrigerator. I remembered my auntie telling her that my cousin Aubrey used to work there. I’ve been to the office a few times, and I’ve never seen Rylee there.”

“She works right at the front desk when you walk in.”

“Well, I’ve never seen there. I would have remembered if I did,” Tommy swore.

“And if you have a cousin who’s a lawyer, why didn’t you just let him handle everything,” Mekhi wondered.

“He’s not a lawyer he’s an intern. Besides, I don’t fuck with him like that. I haven’t seen him since we were younger. He doesn’t come to family functions or nothing. That nigga thinks he’s better than the rest of us. Zyra and I were together for years, and she’s never even met him,” Tommy replied.

Mekhi sat there in awe listening to Tommy ramble about nothing in particular. He couldn’t believe how shitty his luck had been over the past few months. He and Tommy basically told Rylee what they were doing and didn’t even know it. Who would have ever thought that the world was that damn small? Now he knew why the other man who was with Mr. Campbell looked so familiar. He clearly remembered his face, but he put the pieces together when Tommy called out his name. Mekhi never went to Rylee’s job very often, but he remembered the faces of a few lawyers when he did. He also remembered seeing Dylan at a few of the company’s parties and picnics. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what had happened. Obviously, word got back to Rylee’s boss about what was going on, and he took matters into his own hands from there. Mr. Campbell and his family loved Rylee as if she were their very own. When her parents died, they kept up with her and made sure that she was always straight. Mr. Campbell was especially fond of her because of the relationship that he had with her father. He would never let Mekhi or anyone else do Rylee wrong without stepping in to assist.

“It’s all good though bruh. We got the funds. We can partner up and open up another business. We can do it bigger and better than MJ’s ever was,” Tommy said pulling Mekhi away from his thoughts.

“I guess,” Mekhi sighed in defeat. “MJ’s was already established, though. We’ll be starting from the ground up with a new business.”

“Yeah, but it’s not impossible,” Tommy assured him.

He knew that Tommy was right, but it just wasn’t the same. MJ’s was his baby. Hs blood, sweat, and tears went into making that business a success. He didn’t know the first thing about running a business at first, but with the help of Rylee, he quickly learned. Although Mekhi had gone to school for business, things like that came naturally to Rylee. She had decorating skills, and her ideas made them thousands of dollars every week. He hated that all of her knowledge and experience would be passed on to help Zyrian instead. He already had lots of money, and Rylee was going to help him make even more. The thought alone had Mekhi ready to lose his mind. Aside from that, he wanted to see the look of shock on their faces when they found out that he was buying MJ’s. Instead, he sat there and looked like a damn fool in front of them.

“I need me a strong ass drink. I’ll get at you later to talk business,” Mekhi said to Tommy before he disconnected the call.

He had too much on his mind at the moment,
and he couldn’t really focus. As much dirt, as he did in the past, he would have never guessed it would have come back on him the way it was. It was easy for him to blame Rylee for everything, but most of the fault was his own. He should have just taken the houses and business and given her a divorce. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing her to Zyrian, and that was the only reason why he didn’t. Sadly, he ended up losing even more than that.

  Chapter 2

“I wish I could have been there to see his face. And I can’t believe Tommy with his sneaky, bitter ass,” Zyra laughed loudly once Rylee finished telling her what happened a few days ago.

“Nothing that Mekhi does surprises me anymore. I knew that something was up when I saw him and Tommy hanging together like they’re best friends. Tommy better be careful though, Mekhi’s ass is sneaky,” Rylee replied as she ate the food that her mother-in-law prepared for her.

“Tommy is not as dumb as he looks, but that’s all on him. Nobody told him to team up with the devil,” Zyra commented.

“I still think that was all Mekhi’s doing. He doesn’t care who he uses to get his way. Tommy is just a casualty of the war that he started,” Rylee replied.

She and Zyrian were at his parent’s house enjoying their Sunday with some of their other family members. Zyra and her mother were finalizing some last minute details for the reveal party that was scheduled to take place the following Saturday. The event planner took care of everything, but Glenda wanted to do her own gifts for the guests. Zyrian was too excited to find out the sex of their baby, and so was Rylee. She was happier for him because he was driving everybody crazy. Everything was pink and blue, so they still didn’t have a clue. She was filling Zyra in on everything that went down with the sale of MJ’s. Rylee knew that something was up when Mr. Campbell asked to see her. She just didn’t think he was going to tell her what he did. Apparently Tommy had hired his nephew, Dylan, to assist him with purchasing MJ’s. Everything was a go at first until Tommy mentioned Mekhi being his business partner. Dylan had known Rylee since she was a little girl and he was very familiar with her situation. He wasted no time relaying that information to his uncle Brian, and they put Rylee up on game soon after. Rylee thought it was hilarious, but Zyrian was pissed. It was his idea to hire a real estate attorney and purchase the property right from up under them. He had no interest in MJ’s, but he didn’t want Mekhi and Tommy to have it either. They were trying to be deceitful, and their entire plan backfired on their asses. Tommy and Mekhi were getting it at a cheaper rate, but the real estate agent jumped at Zyrian’s full price offer. Dylan waited until the morning of the sale to call and tell Tommy that the deal was off.
